My first visit to Paris was Bastille day through August 8th, so I only had a short time to see Paris during the summer holiday. I did notice more and more tourists on the streets the more we went into August, but since it was my first time there, I was just amazed at it all. I grew up in Philadelphia, and at the time, there were no cafes that allowed you to sit outside. There's something magical about sitting with a friend, sharing some bread and cheese, and watching life go by on the Parisian streets. I still remember how the city of lights even smelled different when I came off the plane. For me, I'd take Paris (heck, any part of France) any time of the year!

I'd happily come to Paris in August, but perhaps for slightly unusual reasons. All those aoûtiens you write about, who abandon Paris, where do they all go? Well a lot of them come to where I live, in Provence, and they have a bit of a reputation here! The reason I actually stay in Provence in August is that there is so much happening, there's a warm buzz that appeals to me.
